Grate Bed: The main component of the grate cooler is the grate bed. This is a moving, perforated surface made of steel plates or castings. The hot clinker from the rotary kiln is spread evenly on this grate bed. The clinker moves along the bed by gravity, and as it travels, it's exposed to cooler air that comes from below.
Cooling Air Supply: A system of fans or blowers supplies ambient air into the cooler from below the grate bed. This cooling air flows upward through the clinker bed, removing the heat from the clinker and lowering its temperature.
Fans or Blowers: To ensure proper airflow, one or more fans or blowers are strategically placed in the cooler system. These fans create the necessary air circulation to efficiently cool the clinker. Sometimes, additional cooling air is blown directly onto the clinker as it moves along the grate bed.
Cooling Chambers: The grate cooler is typically divided into multiple cooling chambers or stages. Each stage consists of a portion of the grate bed where the clinker is exposed to cooling air. The clinker moves from one stage to another, with each stage having progressively cooler air flowing through it.
Water Spray System: In some modern grate coolers, a water spray system may be incorporated to enhance the cooling process. Water is sprayed onto the clinker in controlled amounts, promoting rapid cooling. The evaporative cooling effect of the water can significantly lower the clinker temperature.
Clinker Transport Mechanism: As the clinker progresses through the cooling stages, it's moved along the grate bed by a mechanical transport mechanism. This mechanism can consist of chains, rollers, and other components that ensure even and controlled movement of the clinker.
Clinker Discharge: Once the clinker has passed through all the cooling stages and reached an acceptable temperature, it is discharged from the grate cooler. The cooled clinker is then transported to storage or further processing.
Efficiency: The optimized grate bed partitions the air supply, precisely controls the air volume of each cooling area, and finally achieves high-efficiency cooling, high heat recovery efficiency, and remarkable energy-saving effect;
